Hi,
Syncing requires Bluetooth LE and Internet connection. Windows 10 computers that do not have Bluetooth LE will need a wireless sync dongle in order to sync. Syncs with Mac OS X 10.6 and up, iPhone 4S and later, iPad 3 gen. And later, Android 4.4 and later, and Windows 10 devices. Sync Folder; SyncMate Plus; METHOD 2: rsync Utility. Rsync is a very useful utility built into Mac OS X which allows the differences between two sets of files to be synchronised. Rsync can also sync data over a network, so if your folders are on another computer this method can be tweaked slightly to use the relevant remote hostname.
The iMessages should sync if the devices are both On.
This is irrespective if one is connected to the Carrier and the other to a WiFi or Ethernet to a Network.
Text Forwarding/SMS to Mac requires that the iPhone and the Mac are on the same LAN.
This tends to mean the iPhone has to join the Hotel network as well as the Mac.
The iMessages should still arrive on the Mac even if the iPhone number is deselected as the sync to the Apple ID should cover it.
I have not seen anyone post about using an iPhone as it's own Hotspot for this which might effect the data rate the Mac is getting and it then may not get them.
If...
The iPhone > Settings > Send and Receive has the Number unticked (it happens sometimes) then the number will eventually de-register from the iMessages server.
This will then unlink from the Apple ID. Strangely it seems the iPhone works the Apple ID as an alternative rather that a sync which means it gets the iMessages but the sync is actually broken so the Mac gets nothing.
If you are getting new iMessages on the Mac then there is no way to 'recover' the missing iMessages.
